Reminder: At 1:48AM with 99% of all votes in, President Trump had a 117,000 vote lead, or, 3%. The US is not a 'Democratic Republic' it is a authoritarian uni-party run joke, and the 'citizens' are tax cattle.

What I don't understand is how hijacking the popular vote resulted in any change in the electoral college vote, which is used to determine the next president.

It puts subtle pressure on certain officials. Those who place the idea of democracy above law, and want to act moral, may start taking suggestions from the winner of a popular vote instead of following their official orders.
