IIRC there were actually girls, mothers, and other female characters.

Off hand IIRC, there were often a brother and sister (Cat In The Hat, Hop On Pop, Thing 1&2, Star Bellies, etc.), and of course Little Suzie or whatever her name was from The Grinch.

I had some of those - clearly my memory is failing me!

Favourite book of that genre was Each Peach Pear Plum.

Don't recall that one, but I liked "Oh The Places You'll Go" and "On Beyond Zebra". And "Green Eggs..."
