Obviously they don't announce coups as such in the US. They didn't announce it as a coup when they killed JFK. Watergate was a coup as well, and that one was the most similar to this one. And it goes back further. Look into the Business Plot, where they wanted to announce to the public that the president's health was failing and he needed a helping hand from someone with the same powers as him.

If /u/LarrySwinger2 refers to the 'steal' as a coup d'etat, and that's what had to be stopped on 6 January, I'd say, look at the many Parler videos of people obviously trying to show how they can take back their building, harm whomever they want in the process, and send a message to politicians that they are vulnerable. They were literally terrorizing people at the Capitol Building, even if they aren't the same as the Al Queda (yet). What encouraged them?: 4 years of lies and dishonesty and incitements to violence by many in the right-wing. The phrase in this case is: if you want a revolution, back a worthy cause.
