It's too late to defend your gun rights when your house is surrounded, you need to defend your gun rights when your neighbors house is surrounded.

They took the guns of a guy who was possibly suicidal.

The issue is the "possible" part. One person made a single claim, the other person said they weren't, and thus his property was taken.

Whether or not it's good for the community ignores the horrific way this will be abused to hurt people. At the very least to charge someone with a crime you have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt in front of jury. The cops in this case are acting like judge, jury, and if he would've defended himself, executioner.
