If it's true that some states have completely different opinions about what role government should play in their lives, then the solution is either some light touch federal system where they can decide their own rules, or splitting up completely. If those in power at the state level force their way of life (or lack thereof) on those they despise without their consent, then option 1 isn't really on the table. Who in this situation is being unreasonable?
