I don't trust Maduro, or any socialist dictator. But I trust "journalists" even less. I would like to know what exactly they were charged with. To bad there is no one left to report the truth.

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/energy/article/Citgo-executives-sentenced-to-prison-in-Venezuela-15757086.php

Citgo, which moved its headquarters to Houston about 15 years ago, is the U.S. subsidiary of Venezuela’s state oil company, PDVSA. Three years ago, Gustavo Cardenas and five other Citgo executives were lured to Venezuela for a business meeting and arrested by the government of President Nicolas Maduro on charges of corruption and embezzlement. Most of the so-called Citgo Six are U.S. citizens living in Texas and Louisiana.

Their arrests came amid a purge of PDVSA’s leadership by Maduro’s government as Venezuela’s economy collapsed and relations between Caracas and Washington fell apart.

Citgo, one of PDVSA’s most valuable assets, has played a leading role in the power struggle between Maduro, opposition leader Juan Guaido and the Trump administration. Citgo is controlled by a board appointed by Guaido, who is recognized by the United States and some 60 other countries as the legitimate leader of Venezuela.

Looks political. I mean, I'm sure the company did all sorts of things that wouldn't look fantastic to laypeople but it would never have gone to trial without the political turmoil.

Interestingly, I noticed one of those guys lived not far from me.

All you did was copy and paste the website, which has literally no details. Obviously if all you look at is what the media tells you then you will take away whatever opinion they want you to take. Trusting the media is foolish.

The c&p is for convenience and is standard practice on forums if you're being nice. I was highlighting what I saw as relevant so you didn't have to go to the website, while still showing the source.

The interesting bit is Citgo is in the middle of a political struggle. I'm not sure the exact details of the charges matter. Hell, even Coca Cola and less surprisingly Nestle have sent hit squads to South America to protect their interests before. Business down there is different than elsewhere. Although the article does mention something about a multi-billion dollar stock reissue.

edited for clarity

Trusting the media is foolish.

Of course although Houston is the Energy Capital and Citgo's HQ. There's only so much BS The Chronicle could swing without locals noticing. People who know, work with, or have worked with the company and/or these men, or went down to Venezuela for business.
