Why do nations (like China) get a "Developing" pass?

I'll say the REAL reason they are getting a pass: They make our cheap shit for us!

If they had to reduce their emissions, they could no longer undercut the prices.

That's probably the right answer. I was thinking about that the other day. Companies keep moving manufacturing from cheap shithole to cheap shithole, moving on whenever labor costs start rising. But they're running out of shitholes. The end-state of globalization, unchecked, would be a world-wide equalizing of wealth and labor-leverage. Wealthier people demand things like clean air and water and nature parks and fewer 8-limbed babies. They can't have that. So they have to somehow artificially freeze certain areas in filthy cheapness, bake in a permanent underclass if you will.
