I don't really agree with the Electoral College, but I like how it protects smaller states (like mine). I don't like that it takes power away from the People. I instead prefer that the President be directly elected and then confirmed by the Senate (in which each state has 2 Senators).

That way the states have a say, but so do the People. If the Senate sees election fraud they don't have to accept that, they can vote the President down. Maybe we'll be without a President for a few months when the other party has power, but if we really needed one they'd vote him in. In the mean-time maybe Congress can get off their asses for once and actually do something.

The Electoral college does't do that, state legislatures do that. A lot of states (including mine) don't have laws forcing electors to vote for the winning candidate. And even that isn't ideal, since sometimes we need them to vote for someone else.

America is fifty states, each with two Senators. They're elected by the People of each state, just as the legislatures of each state are. They do a much better job representing their constituents than the shady people behind closed doors who cast all the votes. If your problem is that Senators are directly elected, then there's your problem.

It's not like we wouldn't have someone in the office. We'd need interim Presidents to serve when the office is vacant. You mentioned the nuclear launch button, and I don't believe the federal government should have that much power. Instead each state should control its nuclear arsenal.

Partisan drama is already through the roof. The only way to fix that is to change the way we vote. Favorability voting (a modification of approval voting) is the best way to do this, since it finds a candidate the most people will be the most happy with, rather than one who can polarize the most supporters onto their side.
