Big pharma is scummy. I don't know if this vaccine business should be what people lost trust over when they faked results for second gen NSAIDs, atypical antipsychotics, and antidepressants, making them seem more effective than older, safer, and cheaper meds in order to make a buck.

And their pricing model is "it costs as much as we can possibly charge people." Life saving meds are expensive because it's the meds or death, so they set prices as high as people can possibly scrape together, even if it means raiding their savings and selling their homes.

Got a sauce on the 2nd gen NSAIDs and atypical antipsychotics? Sounds interesting

I had originally read about the second gen NSAIDs in Pharmacy Times but it's not publicly available. Which is a shame because they had the best article I've read on it. The wikipedia article has a good summary, and here is a more scholarly source. The initial studies were bad, cox-2 inhibitors have cardiovascular risks, and it's no more effective than cox-1 inhibitors is the gist of it.

As for the antipsychotics,

There is no clear evidence that atypical antipsychotics are more effective or are better tolerated than conventional antipsychotics. Conventional antipsychotics should usually be used in the initial treatment of an episode of schizophrenia unless the patient has previously not responded to these drugs or has unacceptable extrapyramidal side effects.

Apart from a different mix of community-based care, the introduction of the second-generation antipsychotic medications in the early 1990s was initially found to be associated with better quality of life and reduced risk of relapse.77-79 More recent trials have questioned the clinical superiority of second-generation antipsychotic medication,80,81 and concern is now widespread about the adverse effects associated with these medications.82 In particular, compared with typical antipsychotics, several of the second-generation antipsychotics are more likely to cause weight gain and metabolic syndrome.83 Because the metabolic syndrome is associated with a 2- to 3-fold increase in cardiovascular mortality and a 2-fold increase in all-cause mortality, these adverse effects would be expected to contribute to even higher SMRs in the next few decades.

Informative article on the antipsychotics. Stuff they don't tell you.

To be fair even people in big pharma are telling people they personally wouldn't have any vaccine which wasn't at least two years into testing.

It's the neurotic chattering classes who are pushing this.

Why be fair to evil Big Pharma?

[–]jet199 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

I'm saying be fair to people suspicious of the vaccine. People are a bit black and white about the issue.

The Govt has paid out +4 billion dollars in vaccine damages since 1989.

Federal Vaccine Court Quietly Pays Out Billions

'Bad Optics' Or Something More? Moderna Executives' Stock Sales Raise Concerns

Here's what NPR's examination found:

  • Stock Sales Worth Tens Of Millions: Since June 1, NPR has found, company executives have sold roughly $90 million worth of Moderna stock. Rather than put a hold on the trades after facing intense criticism in May, company executives continued to sell.

  • Questionable Modifications To Stock Sale Plans: Moderna says its executives pre-scheduled their stock sales long in advance. Those schedules - known as 10b5-1 plans - can act as a defense to charges of insider trading. But the plans have to be put in place when executives do not have confidential inside information. NPR has found multiple executives adopted or modified their plans just before key announcements about the company's vaccine. That has raised questions about whether they were aware of nonpublic information when they planned their stock trades.

  • Selling To Zero: Generally, corporate best practices suggest that a company's leadership should hold on to at least some stock in their company to have "skin in the game." That way, the thinking goes, an executive has an incentive to improve the company's performance. As Moderna has been developing its coronavirus vaccine, two executives, including the Chief Medical Officer, have sold all their stock holdings in the company. The General Counsel has sold nearly all of her holdings.

NPR is mostly crap, but the info in this article is ok.

so who says it will be an option to take the vaccine?
