It takes advantage of the fact that most people don't critically think.

Think of something like, "Everyone should be equal" or "Women should be able to do everything a man can." Ask someone that and anyone would say yes, they agree. It would take someone who actually knows why it's a bad idea to say no. People generally don't want to hear anything negative. The average person is the lowest-common-denominator and isn't intelligent enough to question anything or go against the grain.

The flaws of socialism aren't taught in school. I had to learn it from a handbook made for GM factory workers that I found in my basement left by the house's previous owners. It explained perfectly why it was basically a scam. Is it possible it was propaganda by GM to promote capitalism and screw people over? Yes, but many of the points they made held up under scrutiny, backed up with historical evidence.
