I mean, what did they expect, that people who weren't buying Goya anyways would somehow put the company out of business, that poor, likely apolitical Mexicans would care? Of course this is what would happen, it was marketing towards a gringo demographic that would otherwise NEVER buy Goya.

Guess it gives a chance for conservatives to prove how not racist they are, I guess.
