Couple of things you can do, one is to install a Pi-Hole on your network so you'll never see their ads ever again and to block big data tracking your every keystroke online. It connects to your router so all traffic goes through it on every device. Also invest in a good VPN service and run it at the router level as well to mask your IP.

Do your best to invest in local small business whenever you can - buy season tickets at the local live theatre, go to junior league games or watch College ball, the players still care about the game and aren't millionaire crybabies.

Hollywood is trash but there is a limitless supply of pre-existing entertainment, watch the Carol Burnett show, All in the Family..shows from the past 20 years are free almost everywhere to watch now. Movies from the 70s were awesome (Dog Day Afternoon for example is a great film, the Good the Bad and the Ugly is another. These movies may seem "slow" and dragged out because you've been accustomed to watching film that has a cut every 3 seconds).

Buy a shaving kit with a proper razor and by refills only for the razor and not the handle. There are phones coming out which run on a Linux backbone, or you can hack your phones and install custom OSes (eg Lineage OS).

Thank you. This is all excellent advice.

Could you repost this to /s/Activism? It'd be great to have your input.

Just take it and paste it wherever you like... honestly most of what is here I didn't think of myself I learned it from others.

Follow up on the Pi-Hole, I've been running for about a month and it blocks around 25% of my total internet traffic. So if you think of it this way - 25% of your bandwidth is dedicated to serving you ads, tracking what you're doing and sending data about you to places you didn't know were collecting it. Oddly enough, the biggest offender is my Samsung smart TV, it attempts to send data about I don't know what at least 100 times per day. Microsoft and Amazon are the other 2 biggest offenders but not close to Samsung.

That's pretty freaky.

Do you have any links or guides to making a Pi-Hole?
