Is this supposed to be an analogy to tech companies engaging in censorship and other manipulation? If so, the difference is that using a private company's services is voluntary, and only affects the people willingly using their services. Whereas polluting the environment harms people and wildlife outside the company and should rightfully be restricted.

Yes, so stop using platforms that censor. Don't give the government the authority to police private websites, that will further restrict free speech and open communication in the long run.
