Too many people get demoralized about things happening hundreds or thousands of miles away from them. Those aren't things you can control and, while it's important to be aware of them, it's pointless to be frustrated about them.
Instead, focus on what you can control - your own community. Start by putting your own life in order, and then your family's life, and then reach out to your neighborhood. Of course these don't have to be done in order, since reaching out to your neighbors often improves your own life.
You can't stop travesties like mob assaults or destruction of monuments from happening on the other side of the country. But you can stop these from happening in your own hometown. Reach out to your friends and neighbors, and make sure they understand the insanity that's going on. Get involved with local politics, or at least know who your local leaders are and get in touch with them.
One habit I recommend for everyone is to take a walk every day, and chat with everyone you see. It's good cardio and a great way to make friends. It's also the easiest way to get out of your shell and reconnect with your community.
