My dad tested positive for COVID-19. He was imprisoned in a nursing home against his will for 22 days, where he was neglected to the point of abuse, despite the fact that he was a-symptomatic. His health is now far worse as a result of these "protective measures." It took serious fighting on my part to get him released: https://saidit.net/s/whatever/comments/46zk/update_on_my_87year_old_father_with_covid19/ People are incredibly naive to think that the state knows what is best for each person's life. To the state, you are just a number and personal details don't matter. I guarantee that if this bill passes, horror stories like my dad's will become common.

It pisses me off to hear "but its for your own good". At this point, its difficult to tolerate as much as I want to give people their space. My grandma is sick, possibly from TB, and my mom can't go to visit because of all this. The kind of pain this is causing on so many different levels for everyone is just something I didn't expect to see this year. To hear politicians tell us its for our own good is such a massive slap in the face. Hope your dad is doing well, I'm sure everyone's response was worse than getting sick. The latter he is used to from living a life, the former is unprecedented... I'm so glad he has someone like you to stick up for him where many others would just give in to the nonsense tyranny and mass hysteria.

I am so sorry to hear about your grandma. I think the hardest thing for my family to deal with was not being allowed to physically help my dad and physically comfort him. I am guessing that is the same for your family. I am working on an update on my dad now, though I may wait to post it until the riots die down. He is out of the nursing home, but things aren't much better back at his assisted living facility. "I'm sure everyone's response was worse than getting sick" Yes... my dad is old and ready to die. He would have welcomed getting COVID-19 and dying so he could be free of his sick body. He said this "for your own protection" is the worst thing he's ever gone through in his 87 years of life.

You're making me cry with this man. I was ready to break your dad out of that prison if he was still there, so, I'm glad he is out. It is repulsive how people can accept the unacceptable if you tell them they are doing it for a good cause.

I know, right? This whole situation has really made me re-think culture and society. There has to be a better way. Every system of governance we have floating around is seriously flawed: capitalism, libertarianism, socialism... Each sets up one group or another to exploit the rest. There has to be something else, something that will actually work for everyone. I have no answers as of yet, but I know we need to figure some out -- and fast.

Self-sufficiency and self-reliance are the best answers. People survived for thousands of years and many generations simply off the soil. Given the massive developments that happened in the past 100 years or so, we have completely lost touch with that side of our humanity. We can't be dependent on handouts from a corrupt government acting against our interests and then turn around and complain when they don't give us the handout we want! I have started dreaming of going off grid, might just do it given the current situation. Henry David Thoreau's work on simple living and civil disobedience are both particularly relevant right now, his essay on civil disobedience seems like it was written for the coronavirus crisis.
