This seems a little far fetched, although there certainly is some secrecy among Health Officials.

a virus killing only old people and living on surfaces for 6 weeks is far fetched and fear mongering

accepting that all markets will collapse if no one continues going to work so that all supply chains are disrupted is not far fetched at this point, since so many people are already staying home

Okay, now I definitely think that there is some truth to this. Not saying I buy all of it wholesale, but this whole situation is fucked!

In my opinion it's less about the death toll and more about the control.
