I just had this discussion with some alarmists on Facebook so some quick facts:

The “National Debt” is all outstanding Treasury Bonds sold by the US Treasury. You know the things maybe your grandmother got you for Christmas. They carry sometimes 15 but mostly 30 year terms. Also, since we’re the USA and we’re awesome we have great credit. So they carry 3% interest annually. They aren’t exactly your credit cards.

On top of this, 25% of that debt is money lent to the Treasury by other parts of our own government. The #1 intra-government holder of Treasury bonds is the social security administration. They get paid by citizen’s social security taxes each year and collect more than they pay out so they invest it in those T-Bonds. At the moment SSA owns about $3B in T-Bonds.

40% of the value of T-Bonds is owned by foreign governments and individuals. Which if my math is correct means that good old American grandma and grandpa and American institutions like Harvard or various private hedge funds own the remaining 35%.

Now, the US GDP annually is just over $19T compared to the current national debt of $22T spread to one degree or another over 30 years at 3% doesn’t really seem so bad does it? I’m not saying we should go breaking the bank but I am stumping for the fact that we really should be spending at least another couple hundred billion renewing our infrastructure.

By the way, since the late ‘50s, only Nixon (once), Clinton (three times), and Bush II (pre-9/11) have ever run a surplus.

Eh, fuck it. Fiscal conservatism is dead. I used to believe in living within our means, but I don't any more. The Democrats convinced me that they were right and I was wrong.

Why bother fixing our finances when the Democrats will just spend the money next time they're in power, which must happen eventually? Hand them a maxed out credit card instead. Spend the money on ourselves while we have the chance.

Democrats should feel proud. You know how hard it is to get adults to change their political views?

Wow.

Maybe the debt will be paid off by illegal immigrants, technology, a zero percent tax rate, or magic fairy dust, but the reality is that the US debt is increasing constantly, no one cares, and spending more money to reduce the debt will only lead to disaster.

Debt didn’t work out too well for Rome, Germany, Japan, Greece, or Zimbabwe.

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Should we bleach our finger-prints, alter our DNA and hack federal databases to avoid being hunted down by the "elites"?

The elites will more than likely utilize nuclear weapons against other countries of ethnic origin, impose martial law internally using executive authority while with-holding welfare and benefits in those emergency situations to the general public. There may be some autonomous drone war-fare to assassinate select targets and private businesses will barely remain functional during this time of the purge. Food and water may be scarce, but some organizational resistance will attempt to formulate and survive.

Of-course, the internet will be shut off. Total Dark ages. Along side, environmental catastrophes may be prevalent. Including but not limited to: Earth-quakes, tornadoes, volcanoes, EMP's and or hurricanes with some radical solar activity as well.

A significant loss of lives will be instantaneous while others will struggle and still perish. Some lucky few may survive, but unknowns are of what shall take place after this "incident". Be vigilant and ready!

Americans would think a president who wants to restore the Constitution is a dictator.

When asked about gun control, Americans say it's needed for safety. If asked about free speech, Americans respond that no one should be offended. Americans think Muslims don't have religious rights because Islam is not a religion. Americans say asset forfeiture is fine because the police have been doing it for years. Americans defend NSA wiretapping because it's just metadata. Americans believe being molested by the TSA is good since they have nothing to hide. Americans say torture is okay because other countries do it. Americans even say the Bill of Rights should be abolished because George Washington owned slaves!

The collapse of the USA is disgusting and shameful.

Those who still support the government are just tools for the elites.
