If the Democrats think voting for impeachment is a matter of principle, then I can understand that. I agree that what Trump was trying to do with Ukraine is an abuse of power. The intention was pretty clear. I say "pretty" because is it clear in a court of law? Is it clear to (Republican-majority Senate) jury before a (Republican Chief Justice of the Supreme Court) judge? I'm pretty sure the answer is no, it's not. It's pretty unlikely Donald Trump will be held accountable and removed from office.

So, what's the point? If it's principle, okay, -- I think there's too little standing for principle these days -- but if it's political posturing, as Trump and the Republican Party argue, then will it serve the purpose Democrats are hoping for? Or will it backfire? Will it appear as little more than a partisan wrestling match amidst a presidential election? And since only one party -- the Republican Party -- will ultimately triumph, what's the point? I think for the Democrats, it won't be pretty.

Article I, Section 2, Clause 5 provides:

The House of Representatives ... shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.

Article I, Section 3, Clauses 6 and 7 provide:

The [Republican-majority] Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When the [Republican] President of the United States is tried, the [Republican] Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two-thirds of the Members present.

You do the math.

The impeachment report was released more than a week ago. Its complete nonsense. The Democrat party has committed political suicide.

The Republican party is also in trouble. Anyone who voted against Trump in anything will be purged. Not by Trump, but by the voters.
