What is the deal with the PG&E thing? I heard it was just a power play, to make the gov't agree to give PG&E some funding, by PG&E yanking the chain to show how much control over California they have.

Another alternative theory is that the electricity is being used up by something else, like some kind of scanner or weapon or something. Some research project that they're diverting all the electricity for because it needs so much. Which explains the hasty (less than 24 hours notice) and stupid explanations they keep giving about "too windy" for cutting power.

A third explanation is that their infrastructure is actually completely broken and it's literally falling apart. But they announced it beforehand, so it's not like the shutoffs were a surprise. So maybe repairing something central they don't want people to know is broken

Thanks for the entertaining article. The mental gymnastics required to follow the logic of the author was quite invigorating. The tldr: blame democrats for fires AND for insurance premiums going up.

Democrats run California. It's a one-party state. There isn't any meaningful opposition. Why's it a surprise that they're corrupt? Same happened in Mexico when one party was in control for decades.

I've been telling California redditors that PG&E are a private company so they can do whatever they want.
