Uncommon Knowledge – Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s Prey: A Panel Discussion On Europe, Islam, And Women’s Rights [45:00] by Jacinda in podcasts

[–]Jacinda[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

From the podcast description:

Prey: Immigration, Islam, and the Erosion of Women’s Rights, Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s book on the explosion of sexual violence and harassment in Europe, was published in early 2021. Since then, the book has sparked a worldwide discussion online and offline about the immigration of huge numbers of mostly young Muslim men (more than 3 million, by some reports) to European cities and its effect on the women who live there.

To discuss this phenomenon, explain why many of these young men feel empowered to harass women, and offer some possible solutions, Peter Robinson is joined by Prey author and Hoover Institution research fellow Ayaan Hirsi Ali; Valerie Hudson, a professor of political science at the Bush School at Texas A&M University and an expert on women’s rights and demographics; and Christopher Caldwell, a senior fellow at the Claremont Institute and the author of Reflections on the Revolution in Europe: Immigration, Islam, and the West, published in 2009, and The Age of Entitlement: America Since the Sixties, published just last year.

Myth of the 20th Century cover the same topic albeit from a eugenicist angle:

They have their own set of references which are behind the link.

It was interesting but a little too discursive for me. I think Edward Dutton's take was better.

The bulk of the podcast was taken up describing how life at the Malthusian limits influenced genetic selection in the UK (and by corollary Western Europe) where the better off had more children and this had a eugenic effect on the general population.

The last section talked about how this trend in modern society is reversed so that the most conscientious and intelligent members of society are leaving the least number of offspring while welfare (shades of Malthus) enables the least capable members of society to proliferate.

There was a short but excellent discussion about how population density destroys the quality of life. They pointed out that Tuscany is considered a pleasant place to live but if everyone moved there it would lose it's attractiveness.

The podcast was still interesting, mainly because so few people address this topic, but the information could easily have been condensed into a moderately sized article. It would been good if they could have broadened their scope and used some of the information that Dutton presented.

Ed Dutton channeling his inner Malthus

I know it is his shtick but IMO this video would be improved if he had found a different song to open with — his attempt at humor combined with images of children dying of starvation is a little cruel for my tastes — It also makes the video more difficult to share on standard social media.

The contents however were great. Given that they are going to live to see some of this unfold, Dutton's students are fortunate to have him. More academics need to engage with the most pressing issue of our time.

Between Two Lampshades: Mike Enoch explains the alt-right to Thomas J Main (2017) [01:51:53] by Jacinda in podcasts

[–]Jacinda[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

SS: The political scholar Thomas J Main interviews Mike Enoch as part of his research for his book The Rise of the Alt-Right.

The interview was interesting in so far as Mike Enoch was able to clearly articulate his political views — basically his desire for an America which put European culture (and people of European descent) first. It was also depressing as he was unable to articulate any way in which this could be created beyond the massive removal of whole populations by force.

Listening to the podcast helped me sharpen my political thinking. In my opinion it could have benefited by Enoch emphasizing that ethnic segregation need not entail violence; a white ethnostate could be created over time through the slow repatriation of migrants. It is not in the least bit controversial that Mexico, for instance, has naturalization laws requiring their ethnic balance be maintained.

While I admire Enoch's desire to be a "white advocate" it is sobering how difficult creating a homeland will be and how little time is left before traditionally white countries are completely overrun with all the political and cultural dislocation that that entails.

Michael Shermer with Stuart Ritchie - Science Fictions: How Fraud, Bias, Negligence, and Hype Undermine the Search for Truth by SierraKiloBravo in podcasts

[–]SierraKiloBravo[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I thoroughly enjoyed this, it was a great conversation,

Here is the episode description:

Science is how we understand the world. Yet failures in peer review and mistakes in statistics have rendered a shocking number of scientific studies useless - or, worse, badly misleading. Such errors have distorted our knowledge in fields as wide-ranging as medicine, physics, nutrition, education, genetics, economics, and the search for extraterrestrial life. As Science Fictions makes clear, the current system of research funding and publication not only fails to safeguard us from blunders but actively encourages bad science - with sometimes deadly consequences. Yet Science Fictions is far from a counsel of despair. Rather, it’s a defense of the scientific method against the pressures and perverse incentives that lead scientists to bend the rules. By illustrating the many ways that scientists go wrong, Ritchie gives us the knowledge we need to spot dubious research and points the way to reforms that could make science trustworthy once again.

Shermer and Ritchie also discuss:

  • Why we need to get science right because science deniers will pounce on such fraud, bias, negligence, and hype in science,
  • Daryl Bem’s ESP research and what was wrong with it,
  • “Psychological priming” and the problem of replication,
  • Sleep research and the problems in Matthew Walker’s book Why We Sleep,
  • Amy Cuddy and the problem with “Power Posture” research,
  • Andrew Wakefield and the biggest fraud in the history of science linking vaccines & autism,
  • Diet and nutrition research and the complication of linking saturated fats, unsaturated fats, cholesterol, and heart disease,
  • Phil Zimbardo‘s Stanford Prison Experiment,
  • Samuel Morton’s skulls showing racial differences in head size, Steve Gould’s critique, the critique of Gould, and the critique of the critics of Gould,
  • Self-plagiarism,
  • P values / p hacking
  • The Schizophrenia/amaloid cascade hypothesis and why it has been hard to prove,
  • The file-drawer problem,
  • How to detect fraud, and
  • Terror Management Theory and why it is almost certainly wrong.

Stuart Ritchie is a lecturer in the Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry Centre at King’s College London. His main research focus is human intelligence: how it relates to the brain, how much it’s affected by genetics, and how much it can be improved by factors such as education. He is a noted supporter of the Open Science movement, and has worked on tools to reform scientific practice and help scientists become more transparent when reporting their results.

This is the man from the Grievance Studies hoax. He took a chapter from Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf", did a search for Jews and replaced it with Men, and submitted it to a SJW scientific journal. It passed peer review and was published.

In fact, he got a note from the editor saying, "this is a bit tame, can you spice it up a bit?" That's how far these people are from reality. He explains exactly what they believe and why they brook no criticism. Their goal is the complete destruction of science, logic, Enlightenment thinking and Western civilization itself.

If that sounds crazy...it's not. They've been saying this for decades and nobody paid attention. A read through the literature will show the titans in the field all believe this. He tells it like it is and it's a huge wake-up call. Well worth the time to listen. Do it while you're cleaning house or at the gym or commuting or something.

What James and Helen and all the other contributors are doing with New Discourses is fantastic. Loved this podcast, love their articles. This podcast in particular was really informative about Critical Social Justice. I'm taking education courses in the fall and really want to wrap my head around all this mumbo jumbo because I know Faculties of Education are littered with it, the course syllabuses are filled with the catch phrases. I think its important that more people get educated on this pernicious ideology because it is becoming evermore prevalent within our culture. Even watching mainstream news today is hard because of how noticeable the ideological bias is.

The truther in me must remind you he's a limited hangout.

The activist in me is thrilled that he's decentralizing away from YouTube, but it's not really as Spotify is just another giant and he's centrally relocating all of his content not spreading it - perhaps the up-and-comer to take the place of the corrupt YouTube, and/or an excuse to start going after podcasts which have been largely uncensored. Mark my words here as that's my prediction and we shall see (I hope I'm wrong).

This was really tough to listen to in parts. These guys went through hell and you can hear it in their voices.

Might be time for me to have another fiddle with it, thanks for the details. I listen to podcasts all day at work so I need a good smooth ride ha ha (also I am lazy)

Don't know if it's as good as apps specifically designed for podcasts, but I just use it for conveniance more than anything else. If you go to the search section on spotify on your phone, scroll down and you should see a "Podcast Category", click on that and there's lots to choose to from. Or you could just search for the podcast name and it should pop up if they're on there. Then just click the follow button and a new Podcast section should be added to your homepage.

I'm not too fond of Spotify's design either, it's kinda confusing.

AntennaPod because it's open sauce and doesn't contain trackers. Pocket Casts is one of the nicer ones only reporting up to 500 types of your in-app activity to google through their firebase tracking, but I'll pass on even that thanks.

"I think calories and information are identical... we have this glut of information, that we’re dealing with about as well as we dealt with calories" - Penn Jillette - Joe Rogan Experience #1343 by EndlessSunflowers in podcasts

He's right about this but in general I was disappointing with this episode and especially Jillette. I use to think the dude was wicked smart and now I think he's just a moron. It amazes me that someone who made his career creating illusions and calling out bullshit could still be a blue pilled left libertarian that follows the orange man bad propaganda.

Matt D'Elia is Confused: QAnon - Matt’s Favorite Thing Of All Time by SierraKiloBravo in podcasts

[–]SierraKiloBravo[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah I find it all a a little weird. And just to be super clear, I have not really looked into it all that deeply.

I thought boards like 8chan were anonymous, so how do people know the messages are coming from the same person each time? Or is there something like an option to be anonymous OR a registered user?

[–]hennaojisan 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's disinformation.

What are my thoughts on QAnon?: It was a brilliant psyop that had me wound up for about two weeks but I can not say which interest group executed it. It had the effect of embarrassing or discouraging anyone who got behind it publicly and distracted from the fact that Trump is surrounded by Zionists. Personally, I loved the Socratic style of asking questions: What does money buy?

The username is from circa eighties comedian Shimura Ken. Maybe I know you from another board—but we don't need to talk about that in front of God and everybody, as they say down South.

I found it quite weird to listen to. D'Elia seemed to go with the flow of whatever the guest was saying. The guest was clearly dismissive of the whole QAnon thing, not even really considering that there might be some truth in amongst it all.

What are your thoughts on QAnon?

Also, as someone who speaks Japanese, I love your username haha.

[–]hennaojisan 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The QAnon theory consists of two parts: a global, monolithic, evil cabal that is presently running the world and Trump with his friends in military intelligence who are supposed to be fighting it.

I must agree with these two leftists that the second part is clearly not true but they go over the top repeating words like absurd and laughable. But the first part of the theory, about an evil, monolithic, pedophilic and possibly satanic elite running the world, is very near the truth in my opinion.

Given what we know of TPTB, they like to rub things in our faces so they—through Q—spell out the "cabal" theory. Then, when the average person figures out that Hillary hasn't been arrested and no choppers are landing at Langely, they tend to throw out the baby (cabal theory) with the bathwater (Trump as savior theory). The leftists in this podcast want to be sure we dismiss all of it and support the left.

Oh, and they take a shot at boomers while they're at it because we all know boomers don't know sweet fa about computers; they just invented personal computing.

So who are these guys? The word shill comes to mind.

Dude, just leave. You use ad hominems all the time. It's getting ridiculous. The rules of this site are follow the pyramid of debate. If you just call people commies and tyrants all day you're eventually going to get banned. Unlike reddit and voat, you can post whatever you want here, but at least show effort in following the pyramid of debate. The whole point of that rule is for this place not to turn into a voat or reddit echo chamber of censorship and ad hominems.

Alright that's your last warning man. You can't respect the pyramid of debate, you've shown that time and time again. Sorry to have to do this, because you've been here a while, but that doesn't make you exempt from the rules.

You're now banned from saidit.

Oh so you're just acting like you support terrorists, to get those outrage clicks, that are actually for something else? Is that what this is? I'm not going to click donation links on a page that looks to be supporting terrorism, that's called a honeypot.

No, I'm not. And neither is the linked page. This is the part where I can't believe you're being sincere. It's so obvious that you didn't read the post in full, nor did you check the linked page, nor did you listen to the linked audio, nor do you know anything about Stefan. Because you don't need any facts to spin this narrative that "sawboss is a terrorist yuk yuk".

If you're going to pull this kind of shit I'm done with you. You aren't worthy of my trust, or my time. Fuck off asshole.
