Just a reminder, any links to illegal content are not allowed, and anyone posting links to such will be banned.

This thread has been targeted by someone who attempted to manipulate me through PMs, by threatening to post illegal content in this thread (actually he was just "very concerned" about it over and over, saying it would be the end of saidit) and then created another account and used it to post illegal links. I had to ban both accounts.

Just want everyone to know. Don't click any links in this thread, and don't post links to illegal content.

Fair enough. Like I said, I actually buy the games anyway. The way it's set up just never sat right with me.

The downside of being hosted in USA. Any other country and it wouldn't matter, yours is the only one that makes "copyright infringement" a criminal offence.

On a completely unrelated note, definitely don't click this link.

The problem would seem to lie in where you pay for games. GOG is the only one 100% guaranteed to have 0 DRM. As long as you have a copy downloaded, it's yours and there's nothing anyone can do about it!

If you mean "crack and rip" your own games by getting torrents from scenes, check out the piracy megathread here on saidit, you can use a torrent indexer to search for the games you're looking for and then use a torrent client such as Deluge to download them. Make sure to use a VPN unless you live in a country where torrenting isn't really taken seriously. Look for games cracked by popular scenes with a good reputation so that you know what you're torrenting isn't dodgy.

I personally use NordVPN (though Mullvad is probably the best), Deluge and RARBG when it comes to searching for the games I want. With RARBG you need to be a verified account user in order to upload torrents there, so a lot of what's there is legit if it's uploaded by a scene.

And never upload. Uploading is how they get ya. If ya never upload, they can't prove you have it stored on your computer, so they will never go after ya. Every single time i've heard of someone getting dinged for torrents was from uploading. upload rate fixed at 0kbps = no problems.

My friend got sent a letter from AMC asking for thousands of dollars because his ISP caught him torrenting like 2 Walking Dead Episodes, ever since then I've always made sure to use a VPN and shit. He lives in Sweden too.

The catch with this is if you don't seed, the trackers will blacklist you to shitty download speeds.

ultimately ownership is about owning the source code. but i guess open-sourced games aren't doing quite well lately.

Damn, I remember the time time when I waited with baited breath for any new update for Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne, and bought with each update new CD with new license on it. What a times...

Yeah. Not enough people care about consumer protection laws to have EULAs/licencing outlawed, though. As long as they're allowed, companies will use them to milk us for cash.
