You don't need a new technology to do this. Cryptographic signing is already a thing, and if you can run unsigned apps you already have the access you need to defeat any other DRM that might be present.

That shit'll be cracked in a heartbeat, but my guess is most folks using smart tvs and/or other devices with proprietary media players that have non-disableable DRM likely wouldn't notice if DRM was installed. Even if they did, they probably wouldn't know how to apply a crack anyway.

Cracked software on Linux? Is there such a thing? I thought Linux software was all free and almost all open source. Anything non-free will simply be a compiled binary.

Applications on Linux come in, very generally, in 3 forms. You get a zipped archive (like .tar.gz, .bz2) of files. These are source files you have to compile into....or already compiled or binary files you can plop anywhere to run. Both source or binary file, "packages" you might call them, may have dependency requirements, requiring you to install from your package manager some needed common libraries, like OpenGL, SDL, SSL, or other things, usually starting with "lib", like libsdl2-2.0.-0, libglfw3, libglu1-mesa....etc.

So, we mentioned source packages, binary packages, and the 3rd type being a repository package. They usually come in zipped packages in a particular format with the .deb, .rpm, .appimage, or another extension. A repository package is just one of the aforementioned source or binary packages, with additional metadata for the package manager. It tells the package manager what dependencies are needed, so it can auto install those. The package manager then keeps track of the installed files, to easily know they are installed, upgrade them, or uninstall them.

More than likely what you have is just a zip of binary files. They likely require less than easily figured out dependencies if it didn't come with a readme. It is almost guaranteed to include a trojan on crypto miner. You can likely unzip it and run to your hearts reckless desire as-is.

You can more-safely run it in a virtualized thin-container, but while they can do it, virtual machines and thin containers (lxc qemu docker wine) don't lend hardware access like a 3D graphical game would need too easily for novice use. Following a good tutorial focused for getting the particular game working with hardware graphical acceleration, while in a virtualized thin-container is the usually starting point.

The conspiracy theorist in me wonders at the timing between this ruling and the creation of the new Disinformation Governance Board.

There is no coincidence anymore. They are pretty open about their intentions and this is just another example of the government tightening that screw.

I don't know if any defense against the order would necessarily rely on the First Amendment, or if it does it might not be from the obvious angle. I'm tempted to say it should be overruled or reigned in a bit on procedural grounds for trying to enforce a court order on groups who are not party to the case in any way, shape, or form, including ordering around unspecified groups who don't even know about the order, but IDK if that's an allowable practice in law or not.

I wouldn't count on the whole thing getting much attention, though- since the website is just ignoring the court, the only ones who could fight it would be the ISPs and businesses who want to provide services to the website, none of whom are likely to dedicate the resources for a lawsuit when it's much easier to just comply.

On the other hand, a single judge's order doesn't generally set any real precedent unless it get appealed and reviewed by a higher-level court.

I know this is commonplace in other countries, but to my knowledge a US court or law has never ordered American ISPs to censor websites. I hope this is challenged and struck down, otherwise this will deal a massive blow to free speech and the First Amendment. If you need ask me can someone write my paper? You may initially request amendments however in the event that they don't help in further developing the paper you might demand your cash back. Also, you shouldn't stress over the innovation of your paper. The organization ensures every one of its clients that the paper has been composed without any preparation. They convey copyright infringement free papers since the organization has its inner counterfeiting checker framework. Along these lines, you ought to employ somebody to finish your assignment from Academic Experts next time you stall out with your assignment.

Sci-Hub Only Option For Academics In Russia After Major Publishers Pull Out by Drewski in piracy

[–]Kuasocto 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I don't like this whole "academics" term. Anyone and everyone is a scientist if he chooses to investigate something and conduct some experiments or research. And sci-hub has been the only option for all people outside of unis for forever now.

like, imagine NOT using scihub. I bet even university "researchers" in Russia have been using it for years now. the paywalls to articles are absolute bullshit that gatekeep research in the worst way possible. when you research something you go through hundreds of sources, skimming most of them to see if they have any relevant information for your topic. putting a 20-100$ paywall for it is retarded. It means a researcher is expected to pay that much money just for the ability to see if the article would even be useful for him. And what if it ends up useless? you've just spent a ton of money to look at some text for a couple of minutes that you won't even ever use. digital "goods" can be copied at no cost, putting barriers to that is absolute idiocy. They cost next to nothing to host, next to nothing to copy and share, no one loses anything when they're copied. digital IS NOT like print media, there is literally NOTHING to steal as stealing is straight up impossible. you can only copy. so for fucks sake allow easy copying instead of this "copyright" and "intellectual property" bullshit!

One of the things manufacturers use patents for is to maintain quality and thereby there's and the product's reputation.

But before India scrapped patent laws people with HIV were taking 20-30 pills a day and now they only have to take 3. That's clearly better.

The patents meant all the separate drug companies wouldn't get together and find a way to combine their pills but without them suddenly combined pills are the next big profitable product everyone wants to find.

If you are just trying to produce something which already exists at a cheaper price then you aren't going to get the same benefit.

Oh man, those countries already shit all over copyright laws. When I was in college I was friends with dudes who'd buy entire collections of an artist for next to nothing. It was like Napster already downloaded to a CD.
