My wife and I were watching one of those gazelles drink last night. There were a lot of birds, too, that made an odd sound when they flew away, similar to a loon. I wonder what they were.

Thanks for sharing a description of what you saw. I wondered what these creatures were called. Does this look right?

The gemsbok or South African oryx (Oryx gazella) is a large antelope in the genus Oryx.

There is also audio with this webcam? The speakers are broken on the notebook computer I am currently using, so I will have to try listening with another computer, or my cell phone. I have the webcam bookmarked and plan to visit it again.

I think you're right! The wikipedia article states that 93 were released by New Mexico Game & Fish and now there are 3,000 running around. That may have been what I saw or maybe a springbok.

There is indeed audio. Right now (7:30pm Eastern U.S.) the time says 2:30am and what looks like a dog or fox sniffing around the water hole. People in the chat are talking about ostriches, duikers, and jackals.
