There's a good possibility that Christ and Jesus used to be distinct. The early church fathers complain about certain heretics who preferred the gospel of Mark (which just so happens to be the earliest one) separating them. Jesus would be the person and Christ would be his power. Sometimes Paul uses Christ in a way that doesn't make sense if he's talking about a man, like "putting on" Christ. And in most of the places where it says "Jesus Christ" or "Christ Jesus", Marcion's version has only one of them.
