Men are valuble by what they do so looks are less important. Women need to look beatiful because children are vunerable so she needs to look like she can take care of at least herself or at least have the network to protect the vunerable like OP. He's gained a few marks and a lifetime of stories.

Women need to look beautiful because physical symmetry and other elements of beauty indicate physical health. Even as late as 100 years ago, childbirth was an incredibly dangerous thing for women. It often resulted in death of the woman, or the child, or both. Therefore, choosing the most ideal individual to have a child with has an evolutionary advantage because it ensures that the child will survive to adulthood and pass on their genes.
