Odd, because that looks exactly like an ice pick! Here you go.

It's a mountain climbing axe.

This is an ice pick

It's an ice pick in my link, even says so under the image. I'm well aware there are two different types of "ice picks", you on the other hand are struggling to understand that.

When people think of an ice pick, they don't think of an ice axe. Nobody can be bother to learn mountaineer slang except insiders to the hobby. If they misuse a term in general usage in the population it's their fault if nobody understands.

I spent most of my life thinking Trotsky was murdered with an icepick. Eww! What an awful way to die! But no, turned out it was a mountaineering axe the whole time.

The fact is, it is an ice pick and it's also known as an ice axe, it's not my fault you went for years not being able to figure it out!
Here's a report from The Guardian where it's referred to as both. Here, the BBC refer to it purely as an ice pick, as does NBC and USA Today.
The last three reports are fifteen years old btw!

Journalists getting facts wrong? Wow, that never happens.

Actually it's what I expect.

Admitting you were wrong comes with age.
You were wrong, get over it and move on. Seriously, the reports were fifteen years old ffs!!

The media gets it wrong all the time. They're the primary perpetrators of this misinformation.

The only one getting it wrong is you.

I can't believe that people, in this day and age, still trust the media. But here we are.
