To make it look more like what people think NYC looks like.

It’s a movie set. Of course there was no trash on it.

It's not a purpose-built movie set. It's the streets of Manchester.

Most cities in the world aren't full of trash. In first world countries, anyway.

The production team paid the city to rent out part of it for shooting. Fairly certain the city would have cleaned it for them first.

I’ve been to London, Paris, New York, multiple times and have never noticed much difference. New York in particular has done a lot to “clean up” it’s (apparently still held) image.
