It seems like certain members of other sites come to saidit to flaunt their ignorance. Educate yourself instead of swallowing the propaganda of whatever site birthed the foolish link between socialism and genocide.

There's a difference between communism and socialism... Communism always fails. Socialism has many successful examples, especially when integrated with democracy. Like roads, and the postal system, for example.

[–]vaganger 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (7 children)

Socialism is workers controlling the means of production. How the fuck are roads or the postal system socialist?

Retard.

[–]magnora7 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

Yes, and people own the roads, so it's a social good, ergo socalism.

We get cheap postage because we subsidize it with our tax dollars. Shared resource. Socialism.

Are you unable to post a reply of disagreement without also calling the other person names like a child?

Neither of those are socialism. They're state ownership. You're stupid. You loose.

Oh, hey Magnora. I haven't seen you in awhile my man, how have you been?

[–]magnora7 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Doing well, you?

Not too bad. How do you feel saidit has worked out for you? I remember pitching a similar idea when we were working on r/shillfreeconspiracy and the admins locked it, ha!

[–]magnora7 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Ha. It's been going fairly well. Saidit is doubling in size about every 5 months or so, we'll be one of the largest reddit alternatives on the internet very soon.

Mixed systems guy here, the common factor in communism and socialism failing isn't the system itself.

In fact.. a nation once implemented socialism so effectively it would have overhauled how the world's economy works, destroying banks and wage slavery. That nation was razed, and its leaders demonized, but damn does it roast the almonds to this day.

Do you have anything else to say than childish insults? Take a look at the site rules and please remember the pyramid of debate: https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/comments/j1/the_saiditnet_terms_and_content_policy/

Enough of this, and we will ban you for not being able to converse like an adult, and for dragging down the quality of the whole site. Just a warning.

Well you obviously can't have conversations like an adult... nor do you even seem to want to care to try. So I'm banning you after multiple warnings because you're unable to take seriously the pyramid of debate so we can have decent-quality conversation on this website. Goodbye.

      See the rules here: https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/comments/j1/the_saiditnet_terms_and_content_policy/

I'd be curious to see the body count of other, more widely implemented economic systems, and then see how people respond to the whole dataset.

I suppose mixed-market capitalism never killed any people, if you don't consider everyone to be 'people'.

      [–]Otacon 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

If you don't consider everyone to be 'people'

I don't follow what you're saying. Could you expand?

Define what you mean by "kill". Communism literally took guns and shot at people en mass, exterminating entire family names. There were big pictures of Stalin and Mao and Lenin etc. hanging around, and if someone did not show proper respect for them, their entire family would have often been whipped out.

That is a different level of evil. Communism has NOTHING to do with economy. That is only a vector of attack, a justification to convince the masses, or rather, for the masses to lie to themselves.

Communism is one further step towards strengthening the evil of this world. Towards "reeducating" people to be indifferent towards right and wrong. The relativism of good and evil.

It is about destroying the society to mold it according to a hideous shape. It is about creating a system of unending evil.

For all the ill of capitalism, it does not say to kill everyone who is not a capitalist. All the dumb young communists in the west should be a proof of that. Communism however...

      [–]Otacon 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Define what you mean by kill

I never said the word "kill", I said "body count". As in the number of people directly killed (things such as wars, govt assassinations, workers being killed by unsafe conditions) and indirectly killed (things such as oil pipelines breaking and destroying ecosystems that then ruin the livelihood of people, people who can't afford food and then die, people who can't afford medical care and die due to lack of treatment or an undetected illness, people who die in ghettos, etc etc).

It's quite rude and dishonest of you to rephrase my posts with words I didn't use.

Communism literally took guns and shot at people en mass, exterminating entire family names.

And capitalism hasn't gone and wiped people off the map? I'm quite sure the numerous U.S interventions have resulted in a hefty number of deaths, as well as things like the British Opium Wars being direct instances of capitalism (that is, if we count the British empire as having been somewhat capitalist during that time) causing death and destruction. Last second edit: You could also count the deaths caused by every notable cartel and drug empire as being part of the capitalist body count, seeing as how a hierarchical orginization who's sole goal is the attainment of wealth is basically just a corporation. Only difference between cartels and corporations is that one operates outside the law. But U.S law is not inherent to capitalism

Also the OP pic mentions "socialism", not communism. If your OP was intended to dunk on communism then I'd appreciate if you could clarify that

Communism has NOTHING to do with economy.

An economic system has nothing to do with economy? I'd like you to explain that a bit more if possible, because I genuinely can't follow your reasoning.

The relativism of good and evil.

"Good" and "evil" aren't really words with clear cut definitions. If you wanna talk about an ideology eroding the line between "good" and "evil" you'd have to start with an extremely thorough definition of those words, because otherwise there'd be no way to point out and measure change in public perception of "good" and "evil".

      [–]happysmash27 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

You can portray socialism as some monolithic ideology with only one form, but implying that liberals support it is a bit too silly, as that is a completely different ideology which is opposed to socialism. I would even go as far as saying that claiming Nazis were socialists is more accurate, as they at least pretended to be them.

There are successful social democracies. In fact, they're some of the best countries in the world. Social security is socialism. Roads are socialism.

However communism always fails. If the meme said communism, I'd agree 100%, because communism always turns in to authoritarianism.

      [–]Chipit 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Social security is socialism. Roads are socialism.

Sigh. No. Socialism is government control of the means of production.

This "roads are socialism" argument is a desperate attempt by socialists to pin something positive to their failed ideology.

Scandinavia is not democratic socialism, as much as Bernie Sanders sold many young, naive millennials with that talking point. This was something that was rebuked by Denmark's PM himself. In the Scandinavian countries the means of production are primarily owned by private individuals, not the community or the government, and resources are allocated to their respective uses by the market, not government or community planning. Scandinavian countries are highly capitalist, and incredibly high on the Economic Freedom Index. Entrepreneurship and free markets are fervently embraced, Sweden adopted a universal school choice system in the 1990s that is nearly identical to the system proposed by libertarian economist Milton Friedman, and there are no minimum wage laws in Sweden or Norway or Denmark. What Nordic countries practice is the Nordic Model, something that is possible there because of their tiny homogenous populations and high natural resources to support the taxation need for the welfare programs. In fact the social success of the Scandinavian countries predate this model, with several studies showing that the greatest decrease in income inequality there came prior to the implementation of the big welfare state.

communism always turns in to authoritarianism.

What do you mean by that? I was under the impression that authoritarian communism just happened to be the only form of communism that has "worked" (but only in being stable rather than achieving the goal) so far.

Where'd the 200M figure come from? The figure is 100M. This is the same kind of agitprop that we know for a fact that the NSA uses to discredit movements. You take a legitimate criticism, add some stupid, easily debunked bullshit to it, and presto. That's how they took down the Occupy movement.
