One of the most interesting things I find about breeding birds, is that many chicks and mothers are interchangeable. Much more than you would think. Chickens, ducks, geese, quail, partridge, guinea fowl, just a number of birds I have experienced switching mothers and eggs/chicks around. Eggs first usually works best. Although I would put a large bird with small eggs. They will hatch them, but then crush the chicks. I used to sell fertile quail eggs to a guy who just chucked them under bantam chickens and they would raise them to adult.
