I hear people say all the time that no matter what, good and truth will inevitably win in the end? But for what point and at what costs in the meantime? They are just being spiritual.

If you define "good" as that which works in the long term, then good will tend win in the end. But not always, for complicated reasons. Since all this is complicated, best for most people to just be religious and not think about it too much.
