Why do you take things personally? The vast majority of humanity is moronic scum. They can't help but say stupid and offensive things. They are just stupid beasts. If it was me, and this woman accused me of something, I would have just said "fuck off" and left. The end.

I just drove back from California to Texas. All kinds of moronic scum are on the road making driving unpleasant. Some white trash almost read-ended me by ignoring my signal when I changed lanes. Of course I gave him the finger and he returned the gesture. We drove for a while, both with fingers erect, my wife screaming at me to stop before he kills us. I didn't, of course, but eventually we got bored and drove our separate ways. Just another day in the modern world.

You have your own ideas about stuff, but your wife was not completely off base. You may not think so, but giving someone the finger after "an incident" is an invitation to kill you. Catch the right person on the right day and they'll take you up on the challenge.
