Text editor and web platform

Since Microsoft Word has been rendered unusable and most alternatives seem to require signing into some online service for some reason, does anyone know a good free alternative for Windows if you are producing text? Also, if I want to put up a website, what is a good platform to create and host that?

Is there much advantage of Netlify over what would seem to be the more convenient online options of WordPress, Wix etc.? I guess you would keep your website on your machine, but is it really worth the bother of handcoding or getting and presumably paying for another wysiwyg editor?

Netlify is if you want to write your own HTML. Otherwise the other tools are better.
