In short, you can't use deadly force to defend property (firing at people who are driving away with your car) but you can defend property and ultimately use deadly force to protect yourself while attempting to protect property. Am I getting this right? English is not my first language.

What would be the proper course of action if you're in your American home, and through the window you notice people trying to enter your car?

  • Can you get out with a gun and point it at them?
  • Would you have to let them drive away unless they personally attack you?
  • What if your baby or pet is in the car?

I don't know what the law says but I will give my personal opinion: If your car parked is parked at Walmart and you see someone breaking into your car, is it ok to shoot them without first confronting them? I would say no, you would have to confront them first, and then if it escalates you can shoot them. But if the car is parked at your house, then I think it is very possible that if they break into your car, then they will also break into your house, so in this case there is an apparent threat to your safety.

As Brewdabier says, it depends. In some states you practically have a duty to submit to your attacker. In a state like Texas, your rights to self defense are much broader.

If you're familiar with the name Soros, he's spent hundreds of millions of dollars supporting communists running for District Attorney, so they can undermine self defense from leftist attackers. Anyone with the possibility of a self defense situation should KNOW their local laws, and also know the position of their local prosecutors. Even in a good state, you might have a soros puppet who won their election.
