Why are flu shots needed every year then? There are already plenty of articles floating around saying the current vax won't deal with future variants. If anything, the mutating argument is the reason to wait and see if the current vax will handle them, or if new, better ones come out.

But I guess flu boosters have been around for a while but they haven't killed people who didn't get the vaccine. If the COVID vaccine behaves in the same way and a similar number of people get vaccinated then maybe it will be the same as the flu vaccines.
