When the Jews were conquered by Babylon they had a strong religion.
The Babylonian captivity changed the religion, it didn't survive unscathed.
That was an interesting post and I don't have a comment on the rest of it yet. I've never given much thought to intentional communities, but Basque comes to mind, they've preserved their unique language and culture.
