Israel hardly needs a military since the US does all the heavy lifting for them.

I am surprised to hear Japan has the fourth-largest military. Japan's officer/senior NCO to enlisted ratio is the opposite of most armies, so with a draft and a few months training, the Japanese Self-Defense Force would be much bigger.

Fair, and to be fair, few countries that depend on the US hardly need a military.

Very smart move by Trump telling Japan they needed to do more of their own military defense. Somewhat surprised Obama didn’t do it but I’ll admit I don’t know the politics there. The whole area, Taiwan, North Korea, China, makes a whole lot more sense to me now.
