They also make traffic verifiably less safe. I did a major study on this maybe 10 years ago. A lot of people saw the light and many of them were removed. Sad to see they are making a comeback.

They absolutely make traffic less safe. My city has a ridiculous and growing number of red light and photo-radar cameras. Now, the instant a light turns yellow people slam on their brakes. Good times for tow companies and body shops though, and the private (out of state) companies who sell and operate the cameras and radar vans.
