Those statistics are not good for your case. Per capita, that document puts black Americans far higher likelihood of crime. Blacks make up 14% of the population of America yet account for 2 million of the crimes, whereas the white population makes up 75% and committed 3.4 million crimes. That would mean you are about 3x as likely to be a criminal if you are not white based on those figures. The numbers are reflected in animal cruelty just the same. 14% of the population causing about 35% of the animal cruelty, they are massively over represented in crime.

As much as I hate to agree with u/Zorm, I think it is you who has failed to understand your own sources.

The first link shows only absolute numbers of offenders by race. Aside from race being only one factor out of many, and not the most important, you absolutely need to look at per capita figures, not raw numbers. It's like this: more people die from car accidents than from playing Russian Roulette. By your logic, you would say that Russian Roulette is safer (let's say, one death per year). But you're not considering the rates: hundreds of millions of people drive cars every single day, virtually nobody plays Russian Roulette.

This is why you have to look at the per capita numbers, not the raw count of offenders.

Your second link is much better. The figure we want is the "Odds Ratio" OR from Table 1. That shows that:

  • men are more than six times more likely to be cruel to animals than women;
  • Hispanics are the least likely to be cruel to animals;
  • Black Americans, Asians and Native American Indians are the most like to be cruel to animals;
  • people born in America are nearly twice as likely to be cruel to animals as Immigrants;
  • there is a strong inverse correlation between age and cruelty to animals -- it is younger people who are more likely to be cruel;
  • it is people in the west who are more likely to be cruel to animals, compared to Southerners or those in the northeast or midwest;

etc. Its really good to go through that study and pay close attention to the Odds Ratio numbers and the discussion at the end of the paper.

Actually the whole "race" business is such nonsense. Nearly all the people classified as "black" will have "white" ancestors too. Why aren't they classified as "white" when anything up to 7/8th of their genes might be from white (European) ancestors?

There’s really nothing to be done though: no one willingly lives in poverty but the intelligent ones often escape.
