How did these companies get so fucking stupid....

  1. Take a side in 'the culture wars', piss off half your customers
  2. Double down on stupid by walking it back and pissing off the other half

I am reminded of the wise words of one Michael Jordan when asked why he didn't take political stands: "Republicans buy sneakers, too"

I do not actually want to be berated with overt political messaging every time I buy beer, shoes, or go shopping at a big box store, I'm just buying beer and clothes people, this should not be political, I just want a good product at a good price, lets go back to advertising how great your product is rather than conflating it with some sort of ideology
