You simply can't wait over 30 years to accuse someone of rape. I hate that a man has to be prepared for a rape charge his entire life. From every woman he might have insulted during his whole life. Russian roulette is starting to look safe compared to interacting with women as a man.

Long twitter thread detailing what a shitty lawsuit this was.

TD;DR:

  • E. Jean Carroll spent years claiming that Trump raped her, including inserting his penis in her vagina.
  • Her lawsuit was specifically that Trump raped her.
  • The jury rejected that claim, even on the low standard of "preponderance of the evidence" (a much lower standard than used in criminal trials), explicitly finding that Trump did not rape her.
  • The jury returned "no verdict" on the lesser forcible touching threshold.
  • The judge instructed the jury that the law does not define what sexual abuse is, and they should use their common sense, but "a gentle but unwanted peck on the cheek" could be considered assault.
  • The media is reporting this that her rape claim has been "vindicated".

The thing I wonder about is why did he insist on fighting his legal case (and continues) in front of his followers. He promised that he would testify in person, yet he never did. Based on that, and the fact his accuser agreed to follow the prescribed legal remedy, in my opinion anyways gives Trump no reason to complain. At this point, he ought to be quiet and pay this woman, or be quiet and appeal, either way. But to continue defaming her in public, that's not going to lead to a successful outcome for Trump I don't think.

For the lazy:

E. Jean Carroll filed court papers Monday seeking “very substantial” monetary damages of no less than $10 million from Donald Trump in light of recent scathing remarks he made about her at a CNN town hall.
