Sloppy reporting. She wasn't actually underage, but Alabama has a law against school employees banging students up to age 19.

Fair call. He was a 44 year old christian school teacher. She was a 16 year old student, which, in Alabama, is the age of consent.

So she wasn't underage. She would've been in a lot of states.

Yeah, laws like that are common in states where the age of consent is less than 18. I definitely see the logic there. I just think the headline should have been clearer. Someone reading that and knowing the age of consent in Alabama would think she was under 16.
