The whole clampdown on farmers comes from one scientist with a Jesus complex named Johan Vollenbroek. In the last paragraph of this article, we see his perspective:

“From a purely biological point of view … you could consider mankind as a kind of fungus covering the Earth.” Rather than being the builder of a new and better world — arguably in this case the job of the Dutch government — Vollenbroek described himself as something closer to Mother Nature’s immune response. “When you’ve got some bacteria or viruses in your stomach and the system is getting upset,” he said. “Well then, the system is going to react.”
