The politicians were trying to say it was a hate crime.

It was an Asian male.

Apparently he went into a different dance hall and they wrestled the gun off him.

Your chances aren't great either way, but if you find yourself in a crowd being shot at it's far better to rush the guy and try to mob him rather than all run with your backs to him.

No, often if a crowd rushes they don't know who to shoot. In the place they over powered him no one was shot.

The bigger risk is if you are the only one to rush and everyone else runs but even then it can be enough to spook someone because they aren't expecting that behaviour.

    FWIW, I was held captive inside an Islamist militant city compound, against my will for ten months. Islamabad, Pakistan, 1978-79. I might have a perspective.
