There's so many weird parts to this story and I feel like over the last 3 years I've been reading about this story, that some of the details have been lost to me.

First, it seems they found lots of neglect and abuse; the father figure was arrested for being a child abusing pedo...

Yet, just about the mother's feeding care of the baby, things don't seem right...

The child was only a year and a half old. At that age, they still get nearly all their nutrients from milk. Usually, you transition from baby formula to whole cow milk at 1 year. Eating solid foods is just to get them used to it at this point, but it helpful to get minerals such as iron; the main food is the milk....yet, it says she was breastfeeding still. So, that means, this child is being (attempted to be) fed properly regardless of the type of unimportant solid foods. The vegan headline may apply to the toddlers, but not really this child.

They imply she google searched about her child's declining health. Breastfeeding is difficult and when it starts to fail, you need to seek help or switch to formula (or at this point milk). It seems she was struggling, searching for information, but failed to seek professional help. That seems far from a clear first-degree murder, rather on a double jeopardy charge of murder and manslaughter. She may just be too dumb to care for the children properly, as suggested by all the children doing badly. She was trying to find help, albeit poorly and without professional help, which contradicts the willful murder charges.

Since there was other abuse and and abusing spouse involved, it may have been a hostile situation where seeking help was feared due to repercussions (and/or liability). True or not, I can't imagine why she didn't throw the pedo under the bus and make a defense saying he was abuse and wouldn't let her get help; play the victim.
