This is getting serious - 60% or more of rice crops in Italy could fail because of extreme heat and a lack of fresh water... and ocean salt water leaching inland is poisoning the soil, possibly for years to come. (Prepare for food shortages.)

Just for perspective:

2019 world rice production was 756 million tonnes. Italy was 1.6 million tonnes.

Not saying there won’t be a real drop in food availability, but this ain’t it. See Fertiliser production and China’s recovery from swine flu (pigs eat a lot of grain). Plus the green agenda for converting food into ethanol. There are consequences…. Having said that though, we’re all fat fuckers these days. A bit less might make us live longer.
