Certainly possible, but at least equally likely the girl's mother simply lied to her. It's not like she had any way to confirm it independently.

Lying to the abortionist who is legally required to report it, seems more likely the real reason for getting the procedure out of state, than the obvious lie of being turned away by medical professionals who would lose their job for doing so.
