I've gone from sleeping in a bed to a Japanese-style futon with a mat underneath, essentially just about sleeping on the floor. It takes a lot of the daily tension out of my back working in heavy industry because it forces you to lie on your back and it pretty much just straightens it up while you sleep.
A lot of back problems that people have now are probably due to obesity, idolatry and oversoft mattresses.
