The (((media))) keeps reporting that the attacker had a knife and a fake gun, but they don't make it clear that those were not used in the "attack", which was literally the guy just running into Chapelle.
I don't know what the guy's motive was but he clearly had the knife and chose not to use it.
What actually happened is literally more mild than the slap fest with will Smith.

Most real life fights are slap fests.
I'm sure this guy thought he was going to go full Rambo but that's not how human bodies really work unless you have training. Once he tackled Chappelle to the ground he probably couldn't get up quickly himself.
However the security did have the training. https://twitter.com/nuffsaidny/status/1521745161042153473

Maybe in Britain.
However the security did have the training.
They didn't need to break that dude's arm, but since they did I think they could call things fair.

Man, I rarely disagree with you. But shouldn’t a harsh punishment be used to deter this crime, set an example? Doesn't attacking a person on stage deserves sever punishment. And what was his intent? Is this attempted murder, that was not able to be fulfilled.
Dave Chappell has been right leaning, talking about the “issue” with transgenders. And he was attacked for it. What if left people preaching for slaves rights was attacked? Or someone from “your team”, whom ever that may be.
A pretty harsh punishment for physically attacking a public figure would make the most sense to me. As a deterrent.

We never have before. I couldn't find a comprehensive list of incidents involving people on stage with everything being about Chapelle, but here's one of "bottling" incidents that includes a few scuffles, and being hit with a rock or a bottle can do a lot more damage than a tackle by a small man: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bottling_incidents_by_year and a few other on stage incidents: https://www.axios.com/2022/05/04/dave-chappelle-other-fan-attacks
If people weren't outraged over Chris Rock getting slapped, which I also didn't think was a big deal, this would be a minor blurb in the news and nobody would care. These things happen occasionally. As it stands I'm concerned a bunch of well intentioned people who never go to concerts or shows are going to harshly legislate something that doesn't affect them, and heavily penalize a man when they don't even realize this isn't an uncommon occurrence.
What is different, is normally ten people don't take the fan out back and beat him like they did. I think if we're going to ignore that crime, we can ignore the other one.
The "gun knife" matters though, I have heard conflicting reports about that. Was it simply on his person, or was he brandishing it?

Wow,so what there saying here is this is misdemeanor behavior? I wonder if this would fly if it was a politician?

Or if it was a white guy.
Misdemeanors can carry up to a year. And we don’t know the situation. A misdemeanor may fit the crime.

Likely they security team don't want to be counter sued for beating the shit out of the guy so aren't pressing charges.

Today's headlines report Dave Chappelle saying:
"I felt good my friends broke his arm. I felt good, how bad does a n***** have to be that Jon Stewart would stomp him!"

Seems more like misdemeanor assault to me than felony.
