Twitter Board of Directors Own Almost No Shares of Stock in Company, Elon Musk Notes "their economic interests are simply not aligned with shareholders". What matters to the people behind Twitter, who are subsidizing the ability of Twitter to exist, is control over the global conversation.

He offered a very substantial bu-out offer. The Twitter Board seemed to burn stock holders, in efforts to oppose that. Quite a few people's possible investment lottery winning was just yanked from them.
