but nato is not doing nothing, they are massing military equipment and personnel along russias border. if russia massing military and equipment along ukrains border was a threat to ukraine, how is this not a threat to russia? Nato and its expansion along the russian border is the root cause of this entire conflict.

That's not the case, where's the evidence?

If Putin is so worried about NATO having a border with Russia why is he pushing Russia's border west so it will be right next to 4 NATO counties?

where is the evidence? its everywhere. nato has doubled in size since the cold war ended expanding into eastern europe and along russias borders. in response to what? how many nations have joined the ussr military alliance expanding into western europe and along the borders of the united states, canada and other nato allies in western europe? these nations in eastern europe do nothing to contribute to the security of western nations, they contribute nothing to nato other then territory on which nato can build military bases and missle sites closer to russia. mutual destruction is what has kept the peace, if nato surrounds russia that will no longer be the case. nato expansion into eastern europe does nothing to secure peace, it removes the main deterrent against all out nuclear war.

So you don't have any evidence.

This article gives some explanation of the worry countries have about Russian expansion: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-30273813

Can Nato move swiftly to counter the resurgent Russian threat?

Can it use the strains with Moscow to establish an appropriate level of defence spending that shares the military burden more fairly?

But there is risk here too. Can Nato governments make an accurate assessment of just what the new Russian threat amounts to?

Some member governments, like those of Poland and the Baltic Republics are alarmed - very alarmed.

Having been part of the former Soviet Union or the Warsaw Pact they know Moscow well and believe that the curious form of warfare conducted by the Russian President Vladimir Putin towards Ukraine might one day be directed against them.

Indeed formulating a response to this supposedly new form of warfare - what some have dubbed "hybrid war" - seems to be dominating Nato's thinking.

"Hybrid war" is an amalgam of overt and covert military power; a combination of bullying and subversion along with just a dash of deniability - all intended to make a full-scale response that much harder.
